Teach Learn Grow (TLG) is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to bridge the gap in education by providing one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to students in rural and remote Australia. TLG provides a one-on-one tutoring and mentoring program to rural and indigenous students to empower them to realise their full potential. This occurs twice a year.
TLG Week - Rural Program
TLG Week occurs annually towards the end of Term 2 and Term 4. Students are selected by the staff for TLG Week and are matched with TLG tutors visiting from Perth. Tutors will prepare interactive lessons and fun, personalised activities for each session based on a West Australian Curriculum outcome that is selected by teachers for each student depending on what they most need to work on. TLG week aims to improve the mathematical skills of each TLG student, as well as encouraging reading and enhancing their spelling skills.
During the week, students will get to know their tutors through one-on-one interactions. This facilitates students learning about different career pathways and often can be inspiring as students learn about their tutors' resilience and passion to excel academically. Tutors aim to develop a mentoring relationship with students and focus on being a positive role models, encouraging students to view Maths positively, promoting attendance rates, and engagement with school.
Menzies CS also uses the week to showcase the areas in and around Menzies to the tutors so they can experience rural Australia. The school also uses the week to have a bush day and incorporate Two-Way Science.
